This is a painting that makes you want to sit down and listen. Completed in Rome in 1897 by the Italian Orientalist master Enrico Tarenghi, The Entertainers presents a Moorish interior of breathtaking architectural splendour, its great horseshoe arch and flanking walls covered from floor to ceiling in carved stucco ornament of extraordinary intricacy, beneath which a gathering of musicians performs for a small seated audience on richly patterned carpets. The figures in white and blue robes hold frame drums, ouds, and percussion instruments, their bodies turned toward the raised dais where two reclining women in colourful dress recline beside an elder in white, the whole scene caught in the warm, diffused light of an afternoon in a palace courtyard that has kept the heat of the day outside and drawn the cool of the interior in. The painted tilework dado of deep teal and geometric pattern that runs along the base of the walls adds a note of saturated colour that anchors the warm ivory and cream of the architecture above it with perfect chromatic balance.

The scale of the painting rewards close looking at every level. The stucco ornament in the upper registers of the arch and surrounding walls is rendered with a precision that goes well beyond what the overall composition strictly requires, each arabesque and geometric pattern resolved with the patience of an artist who found the decorative tradition of Islamic architecture genuinely and deeply beautiful. The carpets on the floor, layered and overlapping in the foreground, are each individually patterned with the same care, their red, blue, and gold geometric designs providing a warm, dense base for the pale-robed figures seated and gathered upon them.

This Huecraft archival fine art print is produced on museum-grade stock with premium pigment inks that capture the full tonal range and extraordinary detail of Tarenghi's original watercolour and gouache work. The warm ivory and cream of the carved architecture, the deep teal of the tilework dado, the richly patterned carpets, the white and coloured robes of the figures, and the atmospheric depth of the interior space are all reproduced with the colour fidelity and archival permanence this exceptional Orientalist work deserves.

On your walls, The Entertainers brings a quality of architectural grandeur, warm sensory richness, and the particular pleasure of a beautiful interior rendered with complete technical mastery. The warm ivory, teal, gold, and red palette works beautifully in richly styled, contemporary, and Mediterranean-inspired interiors, sitting particularly well in a living room, a dining room, a home library, or a hospitality space where you want art that creates an atmosphere of leisured, cultured elegance. This is a print that makes a room feel like it has something worth gathering in.
