There is a wildness and a freedom to this print that is immediately and completely transporting. Created by Eva Auld Watson somewhere between 1940 and 1949, High Tide is a colour linocut numbered 9 from an edition of just 25, depicting a dramatic coastal cliff scene alive with gulls in every stage of flight. Some perch on the rust-orange rocks with the easy authority of birds who own the place, others wheel and glide across a layered sky of mint green, deep teal, and broken cloud white, their wings caught at every angle from fully spread to banked and diving. The whole composition hums with salt air and motion, and Watson captures it all with the bold, flat colour language of the linocut medium at its very finest.

Eva Auld Watson worked in the American printmaking tradition at a time when linocut and woodblock were being elevated from craft to fine art by a generation of artists who understood the medium's unique capacity for graphic boldness and tonal drama. The subject, coastal birds in a rocky seascape, places High Tide within a beloved tradition of American nature printmaking that spoke to a genuine love of the wild, working landscape of the Atlantic and Pacific coastlines.

The technical handling of the multiple colour layers is genuinely impressive. Watson works with a palette of burnt orange, deep teal, mint green, warm brown, and crisp white, building the composition through overlapping colour blocks that create depth and atmosphere without ever relying on literal representation. The rust-orange of the cliff face is particularly effective, its warm, textured surface providing the thermal anchor against which the cool greens and blues of the sky play with maximum contrast. The gulls themselves are rendered as clean white shapes with just enough orange detail in their feet and beaks to bring them vividly to life within the flatter colour fields around them.

This Huecraft archival fine art print is produced on museum-grade stock with premium pigment inks that faithfully capture the layered colour depth, the crisp graphic edges, and the textural character of Watson's original linocut. The warm orange, deep teal, mint green, and white of the original are all reproduced with the colour accuracy and archival permanence this exceptional and rare limited edition work deserves.

On your walls, High Tide brings an immediate rush of coastal energy and natural vitality. The teal, orange, and white palette works beautifully in coastal, contemporary, mid-century, and Scandi-inspired interiors, sitting particularly well in a living room, a bedroom, a beach house, a bathroom, or a hallway where you want art that makes the space feel open and alive. This is a print that carries the smell of the sea and the sound of wings in every inch of it, and there are very few better reasons to put something on your wall.
