Ajuga Mandala

Vivid, complex, and almost overwhelming in its detail, this circa 1883 design drawing by Christopher Dresser is a work that rewards every minute you spend with it. Teal, olive green, warm terracotta, and deep brown spiral and interlock across the surface in an ornamental language that pulls simultaneously from Islamic geometric pattern, Celtic interlace, Indian textile design, and the emerging aesthetic of the Arts and Crafts movement.
